Evaluation Process
Your care begins with a thorough evaluation to ensure the most accurate diagnosis and treatment plan:
Medical History
Our back pain specialists will ask about your symptoms, back pain level, and relevant medical history, including any previous fractures or conditions affecting your spine. We will assess any prior spinal conditions to determine the best approach for treatment.
Physical Examination
A thorough physical examination will be conducted to assess your spine's range of motion, strength, and reflexes. This process helps identify underlying issues contributing to back pain, neck pain, or limited mobility.
Imaging Studies
These are crucial for diagnosing the severity and location of the fracture. All prior imaging studies will be reviewed on a large screen with the patient, and, if further imaging is indicated, we will help to coordinate it.
Treatment Discussion
Based on test results, our procedural team led by Dr. Gregory Cannarsa and Dr. Amanda Sacino will discuss potential treatment options. Our compression fracture treatments include non-surgical options, bracing, interventional pain management, and minimally invasive spinal procedures like kyphoplasty for patients needing vertebral stabilization.

(Minimally-Invasive Compression Fracture Repair)

Who We Help
Compression fractures can affect anyone, but some individuals are more at risk and may benefit the most from early treatment. At The Compression Fracture Clinic, we specialize in helping:
-
Seniors with osteoporosis-related spinal fractures
-
Adults recovering from trauma, falls, or injuries
-
Patients with degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, or spinal compression
-
Individuals experiencing sudden back pain, height loss, or stooped posture
-
Anyone looking for alternatives to open surgery or long-term medication use
If you or a loved one fits into any of these categories, learn more about how kyphoplasty works and why it may be a safe, effective solution for relieving back pain and restoring stability.
About Kyphoplasty Surgery - What to Expect:
Preparation
Prior to the kyphoplasty procedure, you will be asked to fast for several hours before the surgery. Standard labs and EKG will be checked prior to the day of the procedure.
Procedure
Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure performed under a mild/moderate sedation. During the procedure, skin in the back is completely numbed with local anesthetic.
Next, a small incision (5mm) is made and a narrow tube is guided into the fractured bone. A specialized balloon is then inflated within the fractured vertebra, creating a cavity. The balloon is deflated and removed, and the cavity is filled with a bone cement to stabilize the vertebra. This approach is effective in vertebral compression fracture treatment, often leading to immediate pain relief, improved mobility, and reduced discomfort.
Recovery
The procedure usually takes about 45 minutes per fracture treated, and patients go home the same day. You'll be monitored for any complications, and pain relief is generally immediate. Some mild incisional pain and soreness is to be expected. Skin incisions are closed with a waterproof skin glue or steri-strips. Bathing can be resumed by the next day.
Follow-Up
Post-operative care ensures the patient receives any support they need for a smooth recovery. Home health services such as home nursing or home physical therapy are available for those who need additional assistance.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy plays a crucial role in rehabilitation following kyphoplasty surgery, targeting any remaining physical limitations and challenges. It helps patients rebuild strength, improve flexibility, and regain confidence. A tailored physical therapy program can accelerate healing, lower the risk of future complications, and enhance overall quality of life. If you or a loved one has had kyphoplasty, consult your back pain specialist about the advantages of physical therapy and learn why it's a critical part of recovery.
Conditions We Treat
Comprehensive Back Pain Treatment in Naples, FL

At The Compression Fracture Clinic, our back pain specialists understand that spinal conditions can significantly impact your daily life, mobility, and overall well-being. Led by Dr. Gregory Cannarsa and Dr. Amanda Sacino, our team specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide range of spinal conditions using advanced, minimally invasive techniques designed to relieve back pain and restore function.
Primary Conditions We Specialize In

Compression
Fractures
Our specialty focus is treating vertebral compression fractures, which often result from osteoporosis, trauma, or degenerative changes. These fractures can cause severe back pain, height loss, and progressive spinal deformity. Our minimally invasive kyphoplasty procedures provide immediate pain relief and structural stability.
Osteoporosis-Related Spinal Fractures
Age-related bone loss frequently leads to spontaneous compression fractures, particularly in the thoracic and lumbar spine. Our back pain specialists work closely with patients to address both the acute fracture and underlying bone health concerns.
Traumatic Vertebral Fractures
Falls, accidents, and sports injuries can cause compression fractures in otherwise healthy individuals. We provide prompt evaluation and treatment to prevent long-term complications and chronic back pain.
Additional Spinal Conditions We Treat
Degenerative Disc Disease
When spinal discs naturally wear down over time, they can cause chronic back pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. Our specialists evaluate each case individually to determine the most appropriate treatment approach.
Herniated Discs
Disc material that presses against nearby nerves can cause back pain that radiates to the legs or arms. We offer both non-surgical and minimally invasive surgical options based on the severity and location of the herniation.
Spinal Stenosis
Narrowing of the spinal canal can compress nerve roots, leading to back pain, leg pain, and walking difficulties. Our team provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment options to improve symptoms and function.
Kyphosis (Forward Spinal Curvature)
Progressive spinal deformity, often resulting from multiple compression fractures, can cause significant back pain and functional limitations. Kyphoplasty can help prevent further progression while addressing existing fractures.
Understanding and Treating Back Pain

Back pain is among the most common reasons patients visit our clinic and can result from vertebral compression fractures, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, and spinal stenosis. While age, osteoporosis, or an injury often trigger sudden pain, back discomfort can also develop gradually over time due to changes in the spine’s structure, nerve compression, or weakened support tissues.

At The Compression Fracture Clinic, we start with a comprehensive evaluation, including your medical history, a physical exam, and diagnostic imaging when needed, to pinpoint the cause of your pain. For many patients, back pain can be improved through non-surgical treatments such as physical therapy, activity modification, bracing, and pain management. However, when these approaches are not enough or a spinal fracture requires stabilization, our team offers advanced, minimally invasive options like kyphoplasty. This procedure is designed to relieve pain, restore spine stability, and help you return to your usual activities more quickly.

Our specialists partner with you to select the most appropriate therapy, a care plan focused on both immediate relief and long-term spine health.
